Great News for ADF Families: Counselling is Now More Accessible

We have some fantastic news to share! The Australian Defence Force (ADF) Family Health Program, managed through Navy Health, now provides rebates for counselling services. This is a significant and positive step forward, acknowledging the vital role that mental health support plays in the lives of ADF families. We understand that moving and the unique pressures of military life can create challenges, and having access to affordable, professional support is crucial.

What This Means for Counsellors

To ensure your clients can claim this rebate, you must be a registered counsellor with the Australian Regional Health Group (ARHG). It’s important to note that the ADF Family Health Program itself doesn't directly register providers or maintain a provider list. The claims process is handled through ARHG, so having that registration is key.

Eligibility for an ARHG Provider Number

To apply for an ARHG provider number, you need to meet the following criteria:

ACA Registration: You must hold a Level 3 or 4 registration with the ACA.

Insurance: You'll need current professional indemnity and public liability insurance. The requirements are at least $2,000,000 for professional indemnity and $20,000,000 for public liability.

Certificates: A current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011) and a current CPR Certificate (HLTAID009) are also required.

How to Apply for ARHG Registration

If you are a member of the ACA and are not yet registered with ARHG, you can apply directly through the ACA website. 
Simply log into your Member Portal and navigate to the Private Health Fund Portal to begin the application process.

About the ADF Family Health Program

This program is a wonderful initiative designed to recognise the service of ADF personnel and their families. It helps eligible family members cover out-of-pocket expenses for various health services. Each dependent can claim up to $800 per year, which can now be used for sessions with eligible counsellors.
